1.) EVALUATE WHAT YOU ACTUALLY NEED IN THE OFFICE

Often times, we hold onto items in our office that no longer serve any purpose. Leading up to your decluttering process, it is a good idea to take inventory of your items. Start by creating a list of the items that are in use and necessary for your workspace.

Ask yourself:

  • Does it serve a purpose?
  • Have you used it in the last two weeks?
  • Is it redundant or outdated?
These questions will help you get down to the nitty gritty of what is necessary to have in your workspace and what is taking up space and causing clutter.

2.) SORT, DONATE AND TOSS

Now that you know what is necessary to keep in your office, it’s time to begin the sorting process. Start to separate your office into three piles: Keep, Donate, or Throw Away.

Some of us may be guilty of using our office space at home as a place for extra storage. This can lead to piles of clutter and boxes collecting dust, making your workspace feel cramped. Take this time to relocate those items to other parts of your home. And make sure to go through your junk drawers.

With your keep and throw away piles taken care of; it is time to make arrangements for your items designated in the donate pile.

At Allied, we have partnered with The Salvation Army to provide our moving customers with the right solutions to make donating simpler. Through a quick scheduling process, unwanted belongings can be picked up, free of charge, and taken to your local Salvation Army store, where all items purchased directly fund adult rehab programs that change lives and restore families.

3.) ANALYZE OPTIONS FOR REARRANGING

After you sort and move out all the unnecessary items, you will have a clearer idea of the office space you are working with. This is a great time to rethink the layout! Maybe you can find a new and better way to configure the space to make it more efficient and dynamic.

4.) CLEAN

Before you start to bring everything back into your office, give the room a good deep-clean. Wipe down all the surfaces, including your monitor and keyboard. A clean office space is exactly what you need for a fresh year.

5.) ORGANIZE ITEMS BY IMPORTANCE

Now that your space is freshly cleaned you can start to put everything away. Start by organizing the items by importance—things used most often should be kept close to you for easy access.

While you’re at it, sake some time to organize those pesky cables. The mess of cables can be an eyesore and make your space feel cluttered.

Follow these five tips to free your space of clutter and boost your productivity this new year!
